There’s lots to do in Downtown Grand Haven during all four seasons. Visitors and locals alike enjoy shopping the district’s one-of-a-kind boutiques and sampling the broad collection of eateries year round. In the winter months, the sidewalks and streets along the first three blocks of Washington Ave. are outfitted with an environmentally friendly snow melt system that enables guests to wander around safely.
Just off the main street is the welcoming waterfront with views of Grand Haven’s renowned Musical Fountain and a boardwalk that winds its way out to Lake Michigan and Grand Haven City Beach. Chinook Pier houses a marina with private boat owners and a charter fishing fleet. There is also an assortment of shops that sell everything from T-shirts and custom popcorn blends to surf gear and ice cream treats. There’s nothing like a long stroll along the pier, with the Grand Haven Lighthouse as the backdrop to set your spirits asoar!
Just a few blocks from Grand Haven’s Main Street is Mulligan’s Hollow, a public area perched high atop a lakeside sand dune. “The Hollow” is the perfect place for anyone who’s into skiing, snowboarding, sledding, skateboarding, longboarding and other outdoor sports. Most of the Grand Haven Winterfest activities take place at this site each January. The park is also open to visitors during the summer who wish to picnic and play on the expansive playground.
